This is post #2 in my new Essential oil series. I’m trying to think of a clever name for the series, but mombrain is not helping. So in the mean time, let’s talk about lavender oil.
Y’all. This is the swiss army knife of essential oils! I use it all.the.time. And I recommend it all.the.time!
Because it gets used so much it’s probably my next favorite oil. I love that it is so versatile and it’s naturally mild, beautiful smelling and SO effective for so many different things.
You know how sometimes when a baby or someone you love isn’t feeling the best and you just want to help but you don’t know how? This. This has turned into my “little jar of help” for both my babies. Well, maybe all three. haha.
One of my favorite ways of using it is to put a couple drops in a little jar with some coconut oil and use it as a baby oil. I rub it on Cora’s chest and feet and even as a diaper cream with my cloth diapers! When she is stuffy it clears her sinuses and helps her to breath. When she has a fever it helps to bring it down!! That is huge! I’d much rather be able to help her with something natural, that works really fast, rather then more tylonel. Yes, I use the tylonel when needed, but it’s so nice to be able to help right away.
If you know me at all, you know that I love my lavender plants in my front yard. I’ve harvested those two or three plants a couple of times and it takes a while, you guys, it takes 175 pounds of dried lavender to produce our medicinal grade oil (!WHAT!)
I❤️lavender! Just harvested my gorgeous lavender. I love lavender so much and will be handing out bundles to sweet friends in the near future who I hope will appreciate it as much as I do! 😍❤️ #whowantssome? And did you know you can get two harvests from lavender? Basically the best plant to have ever.
So, what gets me is that it is so lovely, the oils is so useful and we all think we know what it should smell like. Lavender has been around forever and it’s in all sorts of perfumes…but I had no idea how wonderful it would smell until I got the oil. See, a lot of the perfumes are a synthetic, manufactured version of the plant. Ummmm… they are nothing like the oil. If you want to know more info on that, let me know.* Let me just say, the real thing is REAL.
Here’s a little bit of the science behind it:
“Essential oils have a unique ability to penetrate cell membranes and diffuse throughout the blood and tissues. The unique, lipid-soluble structure of essential oils is very similar to the makeup of our cell membranes. The molecules of essential oils are also relatively small which enhances their ability to penetrate into the cells. When topically applied to the feet or elsewhere, essential oils can travel throughout the body in a matter of minutes.
“Because EOs are composites of hundreds of different chemicals, they can exert many different effects on the body. For example, clove oil can be simultaneously antiseptic and anesthetic when applied topically. It can also be antitumoral. Lavender oil has been used for burns, insect bites, headaches, PMS, insomnia, stress and hair growth.
Importantly, because of their complexity, EOs do not disturb the body’s natural balance or homeostasis; if one constituent exerts too strong an effect, another constituent may block or counteract it. Synthetic chemicals, in contrast, usually have only one action and often disrupt the body’s hormones.”

So what does Lavender do? IT does this and so much more:

- Improves sleep which stimulates the immune system
- Promotes feelings of calm and fights occasional nervous tension
- Has balancing properties that calm the mind and body
- Cleanses and soothes minor skin irritations
- Can be soothing to the skin after a day in the sun
- Reduces the appearance of blemishes
- Supports aging skin
- Includes the naturally occurring constituents linalyl acetate, linalool, and ocimene
- It is perfect for little ones because it is so mild, calming and helps their immune system!
- It clears sinuses and provides respiratory support
- Promotes restful sleep
- Supports healthy emotions and lymphatic sustem
So, Another way I love to use this is in a little mix called the Allergy Trio. I mix together Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint and voila, my sinuses are happy. haha. It sounds silly I know, but seriously, it clears them up SO WELL! Husbuddy is constantly asking me during the spring and fall, “what’s in the allergy mix again?” ha. Because it works! And he wants to use it! So, I either take them in a little capsule or I diffuse it or I rub the mix on my neck and chest.
There are so many ways to use this! It’s such a beautiful little purple bottle. But I think what gets me the most is that God is SO creative. HE made a little purple plant beautiful AND soooooo useful. So cool!

ps- I mean, look at all that lavender:
*pss- if you find “cheaper” oils on the market, let me just warn you. A lot of them include synthetics and things that are actually horrible for your body. You can do your own research but I just ask you to be careful. The whole point of using essential oils is to have all natural ways to help your health, if you use the fake stuff, you may get hurt. If you want more info on that, let me know.
