on slowing down and being thankful

tree

this month always gets away from me. how about you? November turns into December so quickly and before you know it, all of a sudden it’s January.  i don’t know about you, but i want to try to slow down the holiday season a bit.

for me, slowing down starts with being thankful. every day this month.  being thankful opens my eyes to the moment. being thankful helps me to see God’s gifts right now. being thankful leads peace. perfect peace. which leads joy.  {i’ve talked about it before}

joy is my word for the year. it’s what i’ve tried to come back to over and over again…what is God teaching me about joy? well, in the craziness of the holiday season… i think it starts with gratitude and thankfulness.

“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.  And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colassians 3:15-17

here are a couple of ideas on how to be intentionally thankful this month:

  1. Ann Voskamp has a November Gifts count down in this post. just print it off and write down what you’re thankful for each day based on the prompt!
  2. Jones Design Company has a post about how to practice Gratitude. i particularly love the idea of a Thankful Tree!  in this post she even has free printables for the tree. i think i’m going to have to set one up!
  3. The Inspired Room and a bunch of other bloggers are talking about this topic as it relates to being thankful in at home. there are some tutorials and some more thoughts on thankfulness.

right now, this minute, i’m thankful for:

  • the changing colors of the leaves
  • a puppy curled up on a pillow, cute and content
  • a healthy baby growing inside of me- even though she’s starting to make me uncomfortable!
  • a husbuddy who sees little ways to show his love for me {like sending me this video}
  • delicious tortilla soup {recipe here! gotta love pioneer woman!} and friends to share it with

what about you? what are you thankful for today? right this moment? can you think of a few things to help slow down the business that is right now?

i’d love to hear any of your thankful thoughts!
