lent photos {continued}

For thus says the Lord,
who created the heavens
    (he is God!),
who formed the earth and made it
    (he established it;
he did not create it empty,
    he formed it to be inhabited!):
“I am the Lord, and there is no other.
I did not speak in secret,
    in a land of darkness;
I did not say to the offspring of Jacob,
    ‘Seek me in vain.’
I the Lord speak the truth;
    I declare what is right.

Isaiah 45:18-19

day 15 day 16 day 17 day 18 day 19

day 20

  • day 15 – helping daddy plant some tomato seeds!
  • day 16 – essential  oils to the RESCUE! i’m a total addict but you guys, they are amazing.

{they work so well! we all fought a sickness this weekend. most of the time these oils help keep sickness away, but when we do get it, i KNOW these oils help our bodies fight the sickness better! especially for a Husbuddy who has a weak immune system. he used to ALWAYS get sinus infections and since using oils, he only gets them once in a while. i call it a win. and they also help him fight the cold/sickness way better! i know they help sophia a lot too. she has only had one ear infection in her life and i totally blame attribute it to the oils. whew. i kinda went off there. i could probably do a lot of posts about it. contact me if you want to chat about it.}

  • day 17 – tea cups make me happy…because it means tea!
  • day 18 – i got the paint brushes out… WHAT. it felt so good. more to come i’m sure.
  • day 19 – rearranging of furniture happens ALL THE TIME at my house. sorry/notsorry husbuddy.
  • day 20 – cute little fingers holding a cute little cup of milk. cuteness.

last of lent and a curtain torn in two.

when Jesus died, the curtain was torn in half from the top to the bottom.  it is mentioned in 3 out of 4 of the gospels. just a sentence. but it’s there. it’s like a hint. a secret little hint that you have to pay attention to. because it’s never explained really in the New Testament until Hebrews, and even then, it’s not very obvious. but this, this little hint is something that has grabbed my attention for years and hasn’t let go. and these past two days i have been thinking about it a lot. i was thinking about it as i read the accounts of Jesus dying. check it out:

“And behold the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. and the earth shook and the rocks split.” Matthew 27:51

“And the curtain of the temple was torn in two.” Luke 23:45

“The curtain was torn in two, from top to bottom.” Mark 15:38

now, why is this one little sentence {times 3!} significant?

because, as Hebrews 9 explains the custom of the Jewish priests, the curtain was what covered the “Most Holy Place.”

v.3-4 “…Behind the second curtain was a second section called the Most Holy Place,  having the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which was a golden urn holding the manna, and Aaron’s staff that budded, and the tablets of the covenant.”

Jewish priests only went into the Most Holy place when they were cleansed by a blood sacrifice– for himself and for the people. (guys, this is gross, he had to splash blood all over himself!) and he had to do this every year. he went in to petition for the people. to pray for God. to be a mediator for the people.

v.6-7 “These preparations having thus been made, the priests go regularly into the first section, performing their ritual duties,  but into the second only the high priest goes, and he but once a year, and not without taking blood, which he offers for himself and for the unintentional sins of the people.

see, and that’s why it’s so AWESOME that the very second that Jesus died for us on that Good black Friday, the curtain tore. it tore because HE TOOK CARE OF IT ALL. He was the blood sacrifice.

v.11-12 “But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation)  he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.”

HE WAS THE BLOOD SACRIFICE. for you and me, by His perfect blood, we no longer need to go through the yearly ritual of jewish priests to be made holy in the sight of God. Jesus did this so He could be our mediator.

v.15 “Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant”

seriously guys, go read Hebrews 9 again right now. go read it, thinking about how when Christ died the curtain tore. and then read it thinking about Christ rising this coming Easter morning, the curtain is torn in two and we have direct connection through Jesus our Lord to a heavenly Father who loves us.

Praise THE LORD.

isaiah 53 and lent

does it ever blow your mind that the prophets of the old testament talked about Jesus before Jesus was born, before He did anything, before He died for us?  that those prophets prophesied exactly WHAT Jesus would do? that this was His plan all along? sometimes i am just in awe of the glory of God. this past week we’ve been reading a lot of Isaiah 53 in the She Reads Truth study and i am just struck at how it speaks exactly to Jesus, God’s servant and son.

Isaiah 53:4-12

Surely he has borne our griefs
    and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
    smitten by God, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions;
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
    and with his wounds we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
    we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
    the iniquity of us all.

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,
    yet he opened not his mouth;
like a lamb that is led to the slaughter,
    and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,
    so he opened not his mouth.
By oppression and judgment he was taken away;
    and as for his generation, who considered
that he was cut off out of the land of the living,
    stricken for the transgression of my people?
 And they made his grave with the wicked
    and with a rich man in his death,
although he had done no violence,
    and there was no deceit in his mouth.

Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him;
    he has put him to grief;
when his soul makes an offering for guilt,
    he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days;
the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
 Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied;
by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant,
    make many to be accounted righteous,
    and he shall bear their iniquities.
 Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many,
    and he shall divide the spoil with the strong,
because he poured out his soul to death
    and was numbered with the transgressors;
yet he bore the sin of many,
    and makes intercession for the transgressors.

what do you all think of that?!

with lent being almost done, i’m almost done with taking a thankful picture a day. in some ways this is sad, and i want to try to keep up the practice. in other ways i’m relieved that the pressure is off. hee hee.

  • day 35-i was SO blessed to get to go the Night to Breathe conference with Sarah Mae. it was so inspiring and i still feel like i am trying to process what i learned. i tried to just soak it all in! {two pics yes, because 1 was a stalker photo of Sarah Mae and the other was of the beautiful table decorations}
  • day 36- OH.MY.GOODNESS. little miss sweet pea was hard to handle on this day. she was as busy as ever and as loud as ever and i just wanted a couple moments of peace and quiet. i think when Husbuddy got home that night i handed her over and went and laid down for a ten minutes. i’m telling you, you can tell she’s a little rascal sitting in the pantry with one sock on and one off and the look she’s giving me… oi! i was tempted to shut the door and finish my baking in peace. hee hee. but i’m THANKFUL for these moments… i think.
  • day 37- little miss independent. she has such a fun, adventurous spirit and i am so thankful for that. she is also SUCH a daredevil. i barely would make it to the bottom of the slide to catch her most time. she wanted to go headfirst most of the time too. HA.
  • day 38- sometimes i catch my breath in amazement that i live here in Amish country! seeing 6 horses pull -whatever this is- multiple times on my way to church still surprises me and makes me smile. it was such a beautiful spring day today!
