glass and light {day 29}

day 29

glass + light are so gorgeous, aren’t they?

these are original antique Ball Mason canning jars. each one is different and unique because of how they were made back in the 40s or 50s.  and i love them. in fact, they were the first antiques that i bought here in Lancaster county at the beginning of the summer. i wanted to buy the whole collection of them, but i was limited to the cash i had in my wallet, so 4 for 16$ was what i got. they even have the original lids! although, i don’t think the lids would work because they are wearing thin and have some holes. but still, they are so pretty.

but as i took this picture, just because i thought it was pretty, i started to think about the glass and the light shining through. i started to think about how we are like these little mason jars. we are the glass and Jesus is the light shining through. {work with me here, i know it’s a little bit of a stretch. lol} but i’m thinking about it because to get this glass really pretty, it had to be put through a lot of pressure, lots of heat, special processes to make it the right shape and color. we’re the same way. to purify us and make us into the creature He created us to be, He has to put us through the fire and flame and pressure to make us beautiful. to make it so that HIS LIGHT shines through us so perfectly that the world sees His glory.

right now i know a bunch of friends and family going through the flame and fire and pressure. a sister who’s lonely. a friend who’s facing a difficult situation. another friend waiting in a hospital room for her sweet boy to be finished with testing. a friend who’s struggling with her marriage. a mother who just wants to be given the chance to love her baby. a wife who misses her deceased husband. it’s all around us.

these things are hard. seemingly impossible at times. but i implore you dear friend, if this is what you are facing today, know that God is working  to allow His light to shine through you.  to think that HE finds you so precious, and He has such plans to make you into a vessel for His glory is an amazing thing.

and that is beautiful, more beautiful than antique mason jars with the light streaming through.

“So that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” -1 Peter 1:7

“Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tried you in the furnace of affliction.” -Isaiah 48:10

“But he knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold.” -Job 23:10

light reflections {day 18}

i love seeing light reflections on random things. it’s beautiful to think that light coming from someplace else, is reflected on an object that can’t -by-itself- make light. it makes me think about how WE are called to be lights to the world. and yet, WE ourselves can’t conjure up the light ourselves. we can only reflect.

day 18

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”

Psalm 119:105

our light reflections have to come from God and His word. can i get an amen?!

along with this post i wanted to show you how i personalized these lamps for our new house. we started out with a couple of *free* {yay!} lamps that were given to us from the church yard sale. we are still in desparate need of lighting around our place so it was awesome to score a couple of free ones!

lamps original

as you can see they needed some love. the brass had discolored unevenly and had turned rather ugly…  lamps1

so i got out the spray paint. first i used a primer for metal. i almost hesitated here because i fell in love with the white! but i was on a mission for a bright color. i can always spray them white some day when i get sick of the blue.lamps2note to self: spray paint on a level surface…not on the grass! doh. took a few tries to get the bottom cleaned up.

but i think they turned out nicely, don’t you? lamps4

and they go with our blue chevron rug. it’s nice to bring in the color since we don’t really have the time or resources to paint the room right now! Husbuddy thinks the shades could use a little decoration. right now i’m loving them just plain white. we could always add a ribbon or something in the future. what do you think?lamps3

seeing light {day 4}

day 4

today’s photo comes from a house project.  i love the morning light coming through the window.

as of today, we have yet to put any curtains up in our new house. oh, the blasphemy! ha. well, actually, i just LOVE having all the daylight come through the open windows! seriously, one of my FAVORITE things in the world is light coming in the windows.  i don’t like blinds because they block too much even when they are open and they get dusty so easy.

but then we ran into this problem:

bath 1 before

oh hello neighbors. let us put on a show for you! this is their “back door” but really side door that leads out to our shared driveway. it’s unfortunate that it looks directly at our first floor bathroom…

with the toilet RIGHT.SMACK.AGAINST.THE.WALL it’s impossible to get any curtains that hang any length in there. i guess i could have put in short curtains but again, i didn’t really want to block the light too much.

so i took a page out of the Young House Love book: and frosted my windows. {they have a full tutorial HERE} all i had to do was find the window film at Lowes and spend about half an hour adhering it to the window.

easy enough to do and it still lets light through!

here’s a view half way done:

bath during

and here is the view today:

bath after

so there ya go. whenever we have to go, we don’t have to put on a show. lol. but we still get all the day light!!

our dear future guests should be thanking us profusely because they will not have to put on a show when they take a shower either. hee hee.
