a baby book {DIY}

so…i’ve spent the last 6 months looking for a good baby book.
i finally gave up.
they were either WAY over my price range or too … i don’t know… silly. baby-gibberish-barnyard animal-type stuff.

so i decided to make my own! it took a couple hours one night. but that’s it. super easy y’all! so here is a little tutorial so you can make your own, if you so desire.

how to diy babybook

i saw that YHL made theirs so i knew that i could make mine. oh young house love, giving such confidence to the rest of us. when they made theirs, they typed a bunch of pages on WORD and have downloadable versions and even have downloadable pdfs if you’d like to go that route. but i didn’t want it to be that constrained and i didn’t like the word-processed look. i wanted my own thing and i wanted it to be pretty. aka… i decided to make an art project out of it.

supplies

supplies:

  •  8×8 scrapbook from michaels {40% off holla!}
  • a refill package so that i had 20 pages(40 really when you count front and back) total
  • decorative insertable cards, like these from project life Baby edition:  {SO-if you do project life– i imagine it would be a lot easier to use their set up of just sticking it in the sleeves! but this was my first time trying it out… i have to say it was SO much fun to have little pre-made cards with fun words and colors!}
  • scissors, stamps, stickers, glue dots, pretty paper…whatever else i already had and whatever else you need to put your album together the way you want.

supplies2

this picture of the project-life cards pretty much sums up how awesome they are! so.much.fun. i ended up only spending about 20$ total on all my supplies because of the michael’s coupons and sales going on. that’s WAY cheaper than any book i found online or in a store and i love that it is so much more personal.

how to do it:

first i cut out pretty paper to put in every sleeve. there is no perfect way to do this and i use a different pattern on each page. i’m pretty sure the graphic-design police would arrest me… but oh well. i still think it’s cute.

i made a list of how i wanted the book laid out. here’s how it went:

  1. baby name + footprints
  2. announcement pics/ultra sound
  3. baby bump photos
  4. showers and predictions
  5. hospital pics and info
  6. birth announcement and more characteristics
  7. welcome home/meeting puppcakes
  8. first time(s)
  9. (12 pages total) month by month
  10. 1st year photo

then i added a couple of cards to each page. some of them i taped on, some i just stuck in the sleeves loose to tape on when i actually have a picture to lay out in there.

here’s the first page. why yes, sweet Miss A (my sister who hates surprises is dying for me to tell her baby girl’s name) i blurred out her name! lol.

page1-a

as you can see, i just have a little sticky note in place where i want the footprints. i am bringing one of the larger decorative cards to get her footprints at the hospital. then, when i get home, i can just tape it in the book!

page2-3

i ordered copies of some of my photos from the past nine months. like this one where we announced we were prego and this one when we announced we were having a girl. i’ll paste them in here when i get them. you can also see that some of the cards are just floating in the plastic sleeves. i figure when i get all the pictures, i can tape them down how i want to. i don’t have to do it all right now.

page7

our predictions page. {we better make some of those predictions! it could be too late soon! lol}

page8-9

a hospital page with room for photos.

page10-11

more baby info page. and hopefully i get around to making a birth announcement sometime in January… we’ll see!

page14-15

a page for firsts… with room for some pictures.

stamping

here’s a close up for the month by month cards. this is probably the part that took the longest. i didn’t do much else for these pages but i wanted them all to have a stamped title.

month example

so i taped down the title in the corner of each page and then threw in some decorative cards…again, to be organized when i get the pictures printed. i also have a big card for each month where i  plan to write important things about that month like, a funny thing she did, what she likes, how much she weighs, etc.

month example2

and that’s it! super easy! {especially with the decorative cards!} and i think i love that it’s a little LOT more personal then anything i could have bought for her.

so have any of you ever made a baby book? i’m thinking this would be a pretty awesome gift for other expectant mothers… what do you think?

{ps, i was not paid or solicited to talk about project life. i just wanted to try it out and share it with you guys!}

a prayer for my baby girl

she really could be here any day now. that is so crazy to think about. i’m so excited and yet totally terrified. i am writing this little piece of  my heart a little timidly. i’m not sure i want to publish this for the world to read, but i write this because it is my heart open and true that glorifies God the most.

Christmas baby

Dear Lord,

for my sweet baby girl, i pray. this girl that you’re bringing into our lives this Christmas is a gift. like a gift wrapped under the tree, just waiting to be opened, i wait for this little arrival. thank you for such an amazing gift!! but even though it is a free gift for us, it is a gift that i give back to you, knowing fully well that you’re hands are stronger than mine to hold her tight, knowing fully well, that You are her real Father.

as she grows, these things i pray: may she fall in love with you early so that she may grow in confidence in You alone and not in any other.

may she grow in courage and strength like Esther who stood up for her beliefs and her people. may this strength and courage help her to face the dangers of the world, but may she know it only comes from You.

Lord, bless my daughter. grow her to be a woman of God.

may she grow in love like Ruth who would not leave her mother-in-law’s side when given the chance. may this love teach her what real grace means so that she may treat all those around her with true love and live in grace daily.

Lord, bless my daughter. grow her to be a woman of God.

may she grow in hope like Mary, who trusted that You are a God who works miracles. may this hope teach her about faith, peace and joy, which are all just gifts from You, nothing that she can make up for herself. may you bless her with these gifts.

Lord, bless my daughter. grow her to be a woman of God.

i need you, Lord, in every minute of every day to help me raise her to become the girl, the woman, that you’ve created her to be. i need you Lord, as i do not even know HOW to pray for her, HOW to be a mother to her, or even HOW to love her like You do. i know that you will take this feeble attempt at prayer and use it and show me more HOW to do all these things.

Lord, even as i am overwhelmed by the greatness of this gift and the huge responsibility, i thank you for her.  i thank you for such an amazing gift.

amen.

baby bump {update}

just in case if you were wondering if i was still pregnant.

whelp…

i am. and i have plenty to show for it!

36,37

haha. you should hear some of the comments i get! people can not believe that the doctors say i’m still right on schedule! and if i could get a dollar every time someone asks me if i’m having twins…oh man. the things people say! lol… why is it that when someone is pregnant it’s all of a sudden ok to make comments about their body that you would never make before? it’s so hilarious to me! i actually haven’t had too many strangers touch my belly, which is good. i was expecting it to happen more often.

in other news, i gained 6 lbs over Thanksgiving week. haha ack! i was really swollen at the doctors appointment, {we’re talking about cankles, people} so he thought it was probably mostly water weight…but still!! yowzers!

my dear baby girl, you’re one BIG girl and i love it. i can’t wait to meet you!

the count down is here! we only have two and half more weeks till she’s due to make an appearance. we’ll see. i think she’ll be late, Husbuddy thinks she’ll be early.

speaking of Husbuddy, while i’m busy making a baby…Husbuddy is busy getting ready in other ways:

working on bassinet

here he is putting together the bassinet. he is SO excited to be a daddy. i think he’s going to be the best. isn’t he the cutest ever?

a beautiful baby shower

do you want to see what the most beautiful baby shower in the world looks like? well, it was the saturday before thanksgiving in Princeton, NJ, so you’re a little late, but i have some pictures for you!

and of course the most lovely host, Lynne, opened up her beautiful home to us. it was so fun to get to have a little party in her home!  Lynne and me

and my momma came! see how excited i am?! my tongue was even sticking out! {so embarrassed…why in the world do i do that?! she’s so pretty and i’m so classy…}

mom and me

and my most beautiful sister, Amy, surprised me for the weekend! BEST SURPRISE EVER! i miss her so much like ALL the TIME and it meant so much that she came along with my mom! she’s so grown up now with her very fancy nursing job at Children’s Hospital of Denver, so the fact that she took time off to come see me…is AMAZING.  {*Hugs Miss A!* also, how in the world are you so tall??}

amy and me

but back to how beautiful the shower was. it was gorgeous. these are just tiny snapshots so it’s hard to tell the overall feel everyone got as they walked around and oo-ed and aw-ed.  even the food was gorgeous.

pretzels

and how well do my friends know this prego?! um, cider donuts! in pretty little doilies! um, hello, yes! hee hee. donuts

for a craft, {because they know that it wouldn’t be a party for me without a craft! lol!} we appliqued onesies. one for every month of baby girl’s first year. the girls know that i’d probably LOVE to take photos of baby girl every month through out her first year…so they helped me get prepared!  how cute is that?

onsie craft

here are some of us working away: crafting

even momma got into it. she’s so pretty.  crafting table

finished view! how cute are these going to be on a chubby little baby girl?!

i mean seriously, swoon.

and of course there were too many presents and lots of chatting and catching up. i hadn’t seen some of these peeps since before we moved to Gloucester a year and a half ago! it was so sweet of them all to come!

we also had to document another prego in the group. yay Sharon! she has a few more weeks to catch up to this whale… but she’s almost there, don’tcha think? hee hee. she’s so cute.

sharon and me prego pose

now for your favor, please take a vanilla sugar. seriously, how cute?! {do you hear my squeal?! and how many times can i say “seriously” in a post?}favors

thanks to all the dear friends who came to my shower! and to those who wanted to but weren’t able to make it, you were missed dearly but i ate all the extra food for you. lol.

looking at these pictures just makes me smile. i’m so blessed with dear friends. baby girl has been so blessed by so many people, at this shower as well as my other one. i can’t help but feel so overwhelmed that God has provided me with all of you. hugs all around! {squeal again!}

baby bump {an update}

let’s just say, i feel like a beached whale.

first look at way back in June when i first spilled the beans:

12,14,15

i was barely starting to show!

now look at November:

32,33,34 you laugh and think i’m joking about feeling like a whale… but no sireee…. this gal has 5 more weeks and she feels like she’s as big as she could get! {and yet she knows that she is going to watch in amazement as her belly gets bigger and bigger!}

why am i talking in 3rd person? i don’t know.

what i’d like to know is how much baby-girl is enjoying her little stay in there…because she is kicking LIKE CRAZY.

also, let’s talk about cravings. back in the beginning of this little pregnancy, i actually craved orange juice and fruit. silly me thinking i was so awesome for craving healthy things! i wanted orange juice every meal of every day. that’s a little expensive so i limited it…

then, this fall i craved all things donut/cinnamon roll/and candy. lol. my little sister thought it was hilarious because that’s so not me! i can have a donut once in a while, of course…but i’ve always been able to restrain myself before. it was like there was no.restraint… it was bad.

well, since the middle of October the cravings have been soft-serve ice cream…which means i’ve been to McDonalds more in the last month than…well… EVER. because where else do you get soft serve ice cream late at night? that’s cheap? oi!

that, my dear friends, is why i feel like a beached whale. i blame it all on the crazy sweets that baby girl HAS.TO.HAVE.

hee hee. already, she’s too cute to say no to.

another funny thing…why am i wearing the same necklace on week 32 AND week 33? i’ve worn it only 2 times in the last 9 months. and i happened to take the picture both times. serious pregnancy brain…let me tell you!

thanks for being sweet in your comments to me even when you’re thinking, “man, she looks like a beached whale!” because if you really told me what you were thinking i’d probably end up in a pile of pregnancy-hormone-tears. so really, even though i know you’re all lying to me, i appreciate how often you all say how cute i am with the bowling-ball-bump. you’re the best. hee hee.

xoxo-kimberly renee

ps: let’s just remember how cute Puppycakes was back in June. he seemed pretty excited to be a big brother. should i remind him of this as he starts to get super whiny and sad about how much we’re neglecting him?

working on the nursery {day 26}

day 26

we’ve been busy little bees this weekend… painting the nursery! the color i finally ended up chosing is sort of a like aqua/teal color. it’s called “Grand Hotel Mackinac Blue” by Valspar from Lowes.

remember that this is what it looked like when we moved in: the little door-less closet and slanted ceiling on one side of the room

nursery before2

and the biggest closet in the house on the other side of the room:

nursery before

and last week you saw the beginnings of my priming job:

day 17

it’s slowly happening! eek!

painting seems like such a big step in getting the nursery together! so it made me nervous to actually go buy the paint color…because it was somehow “more real”.  but really, it’s just paint and it’s so easy to paint it again if i don’t like it. and i’m sure there will be plenty of other things along the way that will make this whole baby-on-the-way thing more real.

here are a couple inspiration images that i’ve pinned just so you get an idea of where i’m headed:  {we’ll see how close i actually get to any of these ideas since we have such a tight budget!} you’ll note that all of these nursery images there is a chandelier! oh i wish we could have one, but the ceiling is super low already.

the ruffled bed skirt and the pops of pink are my favorite. and look at the fun detail on the drapes!

all the colors in this room are amazing. and i’m in LOVE with this rug: {alas, it’s anthropologie which means WAY out of the price range!}

i just love that these images are girly but not overly pink. this image even shows a gray dresser like ours! the pops of black are fun but i’m not sure i’ll go that way.

there ya go. now you have an idea where i’m headed with this teal wall that Husbuddy is painting right now…isn’t he good lookin’ with that paint roller in hand? hee hee, i think so *wink wink.*  i’m so thankful for him and that he is just as excited as i am for this little baby girl!  {you can tell by his cute tweets}

10 weeks and counting {day 19 + baby bump!}

this is my reading list at the moment:

day 19

actually i forgot to include a huge pile of baby books. but let’s be honest, i’ve been a little overwhelmed with the baby stuff so i’ve been avoiding the books like the plague… doh. anyhoo…

you see my favorite study bible and journal. there’s also a book that Husbuddy and i started reading together this week. we like to do that every once in a while. pick up a book(it’s not always about marriage!!) and then each read a chapter or two (separately! we’re not good at doing it together) and then 1 day a week we go out for coffee (or make fancy hot chocolate at home) and talk about the chapter we just read. (whew, longest sentence ever with all the parenthesis! lol) since we only just started reading it, i can’t give too much of a review, but feel free to ask in a couple weeks! we are big fans of Driscoll though and we are always checking out new marriage books because we believe it’s SO important to keep working on our relationship. it’s been 7 years of doing this little ritual and i pray that we’ll still be doing it in 50 years!

the top book  on the pile is also new this week.  i picked up the Beth Moore book, Whispers of Hope,  it’s a 10 week study/practice of prayer.  it kind of stuck out to me at Barnes and Noble as i was searching for my sister’s Christmas present. 10 weeks of devotional prayer? that would be good for me! then i realized why “10 weeks” stuck out to me… i have 10 weeks until baby girl arrives! ah!

10 weeks of prayer.

70 days of practicing prayer before life gets turned upside down.

it’d be SO good for me. so i went with it. so far i’ve been convicted that i really DO desire a deeper prayer life and i know that baby girl won’t make it any easier. i’m hoping that these 70 days will be full of practicing prayer to 1. hold me over in the new phase of life, 2. help prepare my heart for being a mama, and 3. help me to keep praying when life looks different.

speaking of 10 weeks left… i owe you guys a baby bump update! it seems like we skip taking photos every couple of weeks for whatever random reason but here are the latest 3 photos!

27,28,30

i feel HUGE. some days i look down and wonder how much bigger i could really get in the next 10 weeks. oh boy oh boy!

10 weeks will go by fast, right? i mean, could i really get THAT much bigger?

and really, i can’t take too much longer of Husbuddy calling me “humpty-dumpty”!! ha.

{ps, i am going to need a maternity winter a jacket because i can’t get any of my jackets to zip over the belly any more…anyone have an old one i can have?! or anyone want to donate to the cause of keeping the belly warm? hee hee. here’s to hoping the warm weather lasts a little longer! }

{pss: Husbuddy only calls me that when i’m in a really good mood and avoids calling me that when my emotions are out of control…which is like- all the time. so, don’t worry, i know he’s joking and he really has only called me that a couple times… no need to go yelling at him or anything. lol.}
