graduation weekend {part 1}

this is the first installment of the most exhausting weekend i’ve had in a long time. it was graduation weekend. multiple days, lots of family, lots of friends, lots of sunshine… it was beautiful. and exhausting {oh wait, did i mention that already?}

on friday afternoon we had baccalaureate. it was a beautiful celebration of Husbuddy’s accomplishment… finishing the M.Div at Princeton!

my in-law’s came out to celebrate with us.

can’t you tell which one he is? of course, he’s not even looking at me.

then we stopped by the President’s backyard for a posh beautiful backyard party.

his momma is so proud. 🙂

these wonderful friends were at the party too. i’m so glad we got this picture because somehow we missed them the next day at the real deal!  Abby and Scott are such an awesome couple. They are such an example of Christ’s love to everyone they meet. I’m thankful that they will be up in Boston next year when Scott attends Harvard. {did i mention he’s brilliant too?!}

I’m so proud of you, handsome man!  good job finishing strong!

{the rest of the weekend will follow shortly}

on getting old {ok, 27}

a certain someone had his 27th birthday on Sunday. It was Husbuddy’s “golden” birthday because he turned 27 on the 27th! yay!

jt's birthday

we went out for fish because that’s what a Seattle boy, transplanted to the east coast, wants to do on his birthday. so typical.

then we walked around downtown Princeton, saw the Princeton Christmas tree-even if it’s THE ugliest Christmas tree ever. I mean, seriously, anyone ever think about trimming that behemoth? And who was in charge of hanging the lights?

And because I was lame and didn’t make him a birthday cake, we bought mini cupcakes from The Bent Spoon… divine little pieces of heaven 🙂

Then we went home and cried because he’s so old.

You think I’m joking, ok, maybe a little bit.  But gosh, 27, that’s like almost 30! That’s how old my mom was when she had me! 27 seems like too old to still be in school. 27 seems like old enough to own a house already.  27 seems like we {uh hm, HE, since he’s the one turning this old…} should have our lives figured out a little more. 27 seems like we should feel more grown up then we do…

sigh.

Happy Birthday, sweetheart. And even though you’re old now, you’re still the handsomest man! 🙂  No matter how old we get and how  much we don’t have “figured” out yet, I love you with all of my heart and I’m so thankful to get to grow old with you!

{ps- thanks for putting up with my panic attack rants! hee hee}

a holiday weekend hike

hike18

gotta love living on the east coast… sometimes it feels like you can’t get away from the city lifestyle and actually get out in nature{mountains, I want to see Mountains, Gandalf!}

… but then we remember that if we just drive ten minutes we can at least find some park or forest and pretend we’re out in the middle of nowhere. 🙂

samwise enjoyed pretending he was an adventure puppy! and we had fun pretending that we were hiking on some mountain far away. yay for little hikes!  🙂

The lives of the Rich and Famous of Princeton {or maybe just their houses}

house tour buddies

It’s that time of year again! Yay for the awesome annual House Tour of Princeton! Remember last year? It was pretty inspiring. I have to say that this year wasn’t quite as inspiring… but it was still fun!

I’m so lucky to have a friend to drag along with me who loves exploring houses as much as I do! That, and we got so many comments about cute little Owen it was hilarious.

I also didn’t feel as comfortable about pulling out my camera this year because there weren’t as many people. Therefore, there are less pictures, so it’s not quite as exciting as LAST YEAR’s post.

house 2

This one wasn’t really “historical”. AT ALL. But they tried to claim that it was following the modernist ideals of the 40’s-50s. It was beautiful though. The details were amazing! It only had one “real corner” in the whole house! ha.

…and I’ve always got to take the opportunity to catch a cool dude showing off his shades…

house 3

This is the one we decided we’d move into. How cute is it?! Spanish Revival doesn’t really fit into the Princeton classical style… but oh well.

Owen was really fascinated by the fountain.

We also got to tour one of these:

chambers

which was cool, but not as fun as a historical house. Owen was also a little worn out by this time, so we decided to hurry through and then walk around downtown, because as long as we’re walking, O is happy.

…and I couldn’t resist. Like dragging the poor dude to a bunch of houses and letting him get hit on by a bunch of old ladies, wasn’t enough… I had to put him through this new torture.

bahwahah. I love his grumpy face. Sorry bud! You can blame me and not your mother for this one when you’re older!
