sketching {day 30}

day 30

today got away from me. i have to say, i’ve felt pretty good about posting every day for this 31 day challenge, but today i kept putting it off. really, it was hard to get much of anything done today. do you ever have days like that? just me? ok, well, then it’s just me. hee hee.

today’s picture comes from my random sketch of our house. i think it’s kind of cool to see it develope on paper and thought i’d try to share that. didn’t really work, but i like how just by adding a little bit of darkness to the windows, really starts to make the sketch pop:

and then, the same thing, just adding a little bit of color gives it more depth: color

i have been thinking for a while that it would be fun to do a “new house” or “we moved” post card to mail out to our friends and family with our new address. i wish we could afford to do that…for now we’ll just have to suffice by emailing the address or texting whoever asks. ha. but i’m thinking this would also make fun Christmas cards! wouldn’t that be kind of cool? if you bought a new house, would you like a Christmas card made from a little sketch of your house? May need to add that idea somehow to the shop! you know, in all my spare time at the moment…ha.

move example

anyway, it’s fun that just a little bit of color and the sketch really starts to be fun. love that.

sketch for tuesday {#53}

today’s sketch uses only 5 colors:
pencil, blush, true blue, raw umber, and sepia

it’s kind of fun to limit yourself!

i can’t get this image out of my head. maybe since i saw a beautiful painting last summer in Martha’s Vineyard… here’s the original that i LOVED. it’s so beautiful, don’tcha think?!

but since the image is stuck in my head, i want to do my own version/painting of it… so let’s just count this as one of the many rough drafts i’ll have to do. 🙂

sketch for tuesday {#52}

on wednesday.

doh. if it helps i did this ON TUESDAY.  epic blog fail. oh well. life is crazy!

anyway, i thought it was fun to look at what a difference it makes to color a sketch.

see: first one is black and white. second is colored.  elevation sketch

and wala.  even just a little bit of coloring makes all the difference. have you colored any of your sketches lately?

sketch for tuesday {#51}

sometimes a sketch is just a doodle that you do when you are thinking of other things.  sometimes it’s just playing around with something that you write over and over again.

like your name.

maybe i’m in 5th grade again.

point in case:

kr sketch ok. now that we’ve shown off my embarrassing habits… how about you? do you doodle with your name when you’re talking on the phone, or listening to something else? or do you doodle something else repeatedly? hmmm…com’on be honest. 🙂

sketch for tuesday {# 50}

today’s sketch comes straight to you from an architectural study…

we compared this front facade of a concrete wall. the existing house is all concrete on this elevation and windows towards the back. we are adding a little sunroom which is ALL windows except this little concrete wall which has the bathroom and bar behind it.

so which do you prefer?

a. upper windows:sketch_a

b. no upper windows:

i’d love to hear your opinion!

sketch for Tuesday

today’s sketch comes from a project i was working on  last week.

see, we’re “playing” with a new design. technically, i’m not allowed to say “playing”. it doesn’t sound professional and it may come across like i’m wasting time or something. but really, when i’m just sketching and trying out different ideas… i feel like i’m playing with the ideas.

sketch A perspective_blog

this sketch was for an addition that wants to be a breakfast/sitting room with all windows because to the right there is an awesome view of the ocean.  the room includes a bar and bathroom, it has asian influence, and we have to include space for the client’s antique jade horses…which means that my 5th grade fascination with drawing horses actually came in handy at work. who knew?! hee hee.

sketch B perspective_blog

this sketch is a little off- i think i’m missing a couple of feet because it looks too narrow- but it shows how we were playing with different locations for the bar area. in the first one the bar and the bathroom are across from each other. in the second one the bar is next to the bathroom on the left side of the sketch(you can’t really see it). the wall for the bathroom would be paneled so that the it would seem like a piece of cabinetry(…the door would be “hidden”)

sketch cbts_blog

so of course i had to draw an example of the cabinetry. with the asian influence i thought of course the cabinetry should feel like a chinese apothecary cabinet! hee hee. playing at work is fun!
