our day trip to Savannah

savannah trip group it was a quick trip to Savannah one day last week. it was SUPER quick. why? oh, two toddlers and a five year old is why. but it was still worth it just to explore, see Spanish Moss up close, see the gorgeous architecture, experience a southern city and have yummy seafood for lunch. here are a few photos from our adventure: savannah arch and streets gah. the spanish moss is beautiful! and the gorgeous old houses? amazing.  savannah magnolia tree and i wanted to take home ALL the magnolia leaves.   savannah arch and oil lantern savannah arch 2 savannah arch doorway all these doors were amazing. savannah arch savannah church savannah family and of course we found a park.     savannah boys savannah succulents

family at savannah savannah daddy and girl  by the end the kids(and us adults) were exhausted and hot. but it was so fun to experience a different city, an area of the country i’ve never visited. the cobblestone streets and the spanish moss make me want to go back some day!

God has created some beautiful places in our world, it’s so fun to explore them and be amazed at His creativity! #masterdesigner

our little trip to NYC

a little over a week ago now, if you follow me on instagram, you know that we took a quick trip to New York! a few people thought we were crazy for bringing our toddler with us. yes, it would have been simplier without her. but at the same time, it’s SO fun to share these new adventures with her!

we had such an adventure so i just wanted to share a few pictures with you.

NYC choo choo

the little miss was SO excited for her first “choo choo ride.”  i only told her two days before we left but even still, we could hardly contain our excitement for those two days! haha.

NYC central park

on the way to the church where husbuddy was headed, we stopped at central park.

NYC central park girls

we were going for a Presbytery meeting that Hubsuddy had. we were really just tag-a-longs. it was great to get to sit in on a *tiny* bit of the proceedings and also to be involved in the evening worship service, but mostly, the girl and i went exploring.

NYC pastors wives

we met up with our favorite pastor-wife friends! and enjoyed a lovely time together which included a giant slide in central park and ice cream!

NYC cp slide2

Might be her favorite thing from our trip 😂 yesterday on the most awesome slide right in Central Park!

A video posted by kimberly renee (@kimberlyreneeh) on

NYC cp slide

she ADORED that slide!

NYC ice cream

you can imagine how this ended… tee hee. #worthit

NYC night

our walk back to our hotel after worship. i always think NYC is pretty at night.

NYC husband

the next morning Husbuddy had more meetings but we were able to enjoy lunch together and a long walk back to the train station.

NYC on way back to train

NYC train right home

needless to say the weekend wore her(ALL OF US!) out. i’m barely feeling recovered even a week later! ha. it was such a blessing though to be able to go on a little adventure with my husband instead of being left behind as normal. we thoroughly enjoyed our time in the City.

anyone else take their toddler with them on their adventures? it’s always worth it- isn’t it?!

images from our trip to Seattle

it’s been a week and a half doh two weeks (i started this post and then got distracted!) since we got home from Seattle. it was a wonderful trip with family and friends! right now i’ll just share some family photos. we were having so much fun, i barely got my camera out!!

2014-08-26 14.18.21

flying across country was an adventure. it was a WHOLE different story being almost 8 months then when we flew to colorado at almost 6 months… wow. who knew that two months could be SO DIFFERENT?!  2014-08-26 13.46.35  but we made it and she was cute. that’s what counted. ha.

there were a lot of family to meet that we hadn’t been able to see since we’d had Sophia. i’m so thankful Billie got to meet her second great granddaughter. here she’s holding Sophie for the first time and Ella (great granddaughter #1) approves.   grandma billie and ella

here’s the whole Holderman side of the family with Grandma Billie front and center! Holderman_Johnsons daddy and soph we had lovely weather and a wonderful time with our family.

ella and sophia

seriously, Seattle in September is absolutely the most beautiful place with the perfect weather… ANYWHERE. it’s amazing. just don’t give me any other time of year there… lol. there’s a reason it’s so green in September!

on grass

Ella is 5 and we haven’t seen her in a couple of years. it was fun to get to see what a beautiful person she’s growing to be! she insisted on giving a couple of her “My Little Ponies” to Sophia as a gift. it was just sweetest thing. ella

and of course, grandma got in tons of snuggles.  it makes me so sad that both grandmas live so far away and don’t get to see Sophia grow. so we cherish the moments that are given and hold those in our hearts. i keep telling myself that it makes those times we’re together that much more special. i tried to really cherish our time in Seattle and to enjoy seeing Sophia there for the first time. grandma and sophia   2014-08-31 15.05.24-1

this photo of my little family going for a walk just makes me so happy. 3 sunglasses and 3 happy campers. hee hee.

i have a few other blog posts from the trip. Sophia officially started crawling while we were there. {hence, i haven’t had a moment to write this blog post… i’ve been chasing her nonstop! ha} the 12 hour flight day was a little miserable but Sophia was a champ. we are just about back into a normal routine after changing from the 3 hour time change. whew! i got home and needed a vacation from my vacation. ha.

a little adventure

drive to lake george2

last weekend we went for a little adventure.

drive to lake george

we went exploring in upstate New York.

when we were dating and first married we used to go exploring new places all the time! it was fun to have that opportunity last weekend because Husbuddy had a presbytery meeting there. it was about a 6 hour drive. we went a day early because we weren’t sure how little miss would do. {we wanted to test out road tripping with her before we tried something longer this summer!}

lake george2

we were impressed by Lake George.

lake george3

we could tell it is a toursity place in the summer, but since we came in off season it was quite nice! it reminded us *a little* of Sandpoint or Coeur d’alene in Idaho. oh man we miss those lakes! i’m not sure if seeing this lake made us miss it more!

lake george4    dinner at lake george

we found a little local brewery for dinner. the little miss couldn’t really stand all the sitting.

lake george

lake george6

we went exploring until the sun set across the lake. it was a magical evening. “mountains gandalf! i want to see mountains again!” {now if only these were the foothills with big mountains behind them… but they’re still pretty!}

hanging out at pres2

then we sat in this church for the next two days for a meeting…

or shall i say, Husbuddy sat in the meeting…we kept getting up and down and in and out… i don’t think we’ll be going to very many of these…

hanging out at pres

but my little girl did enjoy the architecture!

driving home from pres

and she was so worn out that she slept most of the way home. she was a champ. even if we were a little bit crazy for taking her on this adventure… it was SO good for our hearts to go exploring! we are adventurous souls and it really makes us happy to see God’s creation.

what about you? do you like to go on little adventures to see different parts of God’s world? would YOU take an almost 4 month old on a 6 hour trip and 3 day adventure or do you think we are crazy?! ha. i would agree with you if you say we’re a little bit crazy.

Anniversary Adventures {part 2}

IMG_2505_morning fog

the next morning {after sleeping up in the loft with a tiny little ladder}we woke up to this beautiful view. the fog was breathtaking.

for the  second day of our anniversary adventure we headed up into Shenandoah National Park and drove along Skyline Drive. it was fun to be in “mountains” again. we reminisced of Idaho and Montana and Washington and Colorado… we maybe should have not reminded ourselves of those beautiful places we still think of as “home“… even so, we really tried to soak up  the beauty and the views.

have any of you ever been there? it really is beautiful!

we took turns driving because Skyline Drive is a drive along ridge of mountains. it’s really twisty with views at every other turn so we wanted to have equal time just looking.

IMG_2542_JT and camera

it was so fun to be able to see so far! it’s such a rare occurrence out here in the East and we miss big sky and sweeping views of the west.

IMG_2535_at skyline drive

we drove for a while, pulling off at view points. then we stopped at the hike that Husbuddy had planned for us. we had researched it and had found one of the most recommended hikes to a waterfall view.

i can imagine the waterfall would be quite the sight in spring/early summer.

it was a little bit of a disappointment in the middle of august… not going to lie.

especially since there were probably 50 other people down there when we were. womp womp.

oh well. like i said, we shouldn’t have reminisced about the west prior to this…

it was still really pretty and we really enjoyed a little hike and getting out in nature! and it was SO different than any hike we’ve ever done before because you start at the top. see, we were driving along the ridge, so when you pull of to go on a hike, you hike down first.

that means you have the hard hike all the way back up at the end. kind of backwards from normal! ha. and this prego lady did her fair share of huffing and puffing. hee hee. but it was so worth it! i love to hike and it was fun to get out!

this is me at the end of the hike barely able to breathe and totally sweaty acting super excited because Husbuddy wanted to show how excited we were to be on a little bit of the appalachain trail {behind me}.

IMG_2605_app trail

after the hike we finished the drive back to the cabin and spent the evening relaxing and reading next to the view.

IMG_2611_in front of mountains

we had such a wonderful anniversary adventure! it was so wonderful i even cried on the way home because i was so sad it was over. i blame my pregnancy hormones!

i’m blessed with such a wonderful man to share life with and to go on adventures with. i thank God for him every day. Happy 7th Anniversary sweetheart!

Anniversary Adventures

IMG_2459_chair on mountain

so, it’s been almost two weeks since our anniversary and i have yet to share about our adventures! and adventures did we have!

we took a little trip to Charlottesville and Shenandoah National Park. it was a glorious couple of days away together.

when we were young and naive {as in, when we first got married} we told each other that we’d make EVERY anniversary special. we feel it’s so important to celebrate another year together. a year of love and life that may have had ups and downs just like every other year, but another year. another gift. it’s SO important to us to celebrate and remember!

some years we’ve barely had the money or time to do anything more than a nice dinner. one year we went white water rafting. another year we took a trip to Vancouver, Canada. this year we really, really didn’t have the money to do anything… but we planned it far enough in advance to save up for it and to spread out the costs.

our big adventure was finding a historic cabin on airbnb  on top of a mountain with a view.

IMG_2465_cabin window

isn’t it cute? apparently, back in the day, Stonewall Jackson stayed here!! what what?! it blew our minds that we were looking out little windows that someone famous may have looked out of. of course it was updated with plumbing and electricity.

the best part of the cabin was the view:

IMG_2452_cabin front porch

and the claw foot tub. it was a 4′ tub so a grown man barely fits! let alone a prego. but it was still so fun and part of the adventure of the weekend!

IMG_2444_cabin tub

the evening we arrived we went into C-ville and had a nice anniversary dinner. it was so fun to dress up and go exploring and just pick a place without knowing if it’d be good or not. the place we picked was really good. we aren’t used to southern flavors at all, so it was fun to try new things.  the only thing that made me sad was that i couldn’t have a glass of wine. oh man, do i miss a good glass of wine every now and then!!

IMG_2486_anniversary dinner

but Husbuddy had wine as well as the duck. he loves trying the duck at almost every fancy restaurant we go to. it totally cracks me up. he’s cute though, so i let it slide. hee hee.

IMG_2489_love him

then we walked around the mall. we found a chalkboard wall that has chalk lying there for anyone who wants to write on it. how fun is that?! of course Husbuddy had to graffiti our names on it and a #7…with a heart. see, i told you he was cute.

it was a lovely start to our 7th anniversary adventure! the next day we went for a fun drive and a hike. more on that next time.

IMG_2490_anniversary dinner

so what about you? do you feel it’s important to celebrate anniversaries and milestones too? do you go on adventures with your loved one just to celebrate each other? i’d love to hear!
