Got Pain? {DIY pain cream}

If you know me at all, you know I love a basic DIY. This one is super easy and super awesome! I wanted to share with you in case you wanted an easy pain cream to rub on where it hurts 🙂

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup coconut oil
  • 5 drops each of Lemongrass, Panaway, Peppermint and Valor.
  • That’s it!

How to make it:

Start whipping the coconut oil in the mixer to get a nice whipped texture.  add the oils!

Mix it some more!

Then I just stuck it in a jar and added a tag. Easy peasy.

I am planning on using this on my back or hips that seem to have some aches and pains from this pregnancy. I have also already used some on my jaw line where I am clenching my teeth and it really hurts. I love being able to find solutions to pain besides just more Tylenol.  Anyone else?

Have lemons?

Make Lemonade! OR Lemon essential oil!

Yup, that’s right. I’m back to talking about my little buddies. They are just extra tools in my tool-kit. They are not a “save all” “answer to everything”. But they are AWESOME, so I’m here to share some more with you today!

Today we are talking about Lemon. I wanted to share about Lemon because I don’t think we talk about how awesome this plant is enough, and then what a great oil it makes! And also, a  family member of mine ordered this oil and I wanted to provide some information for her! 😉

Lemon Essential Oil

Anyway… back to lemon.

Has anyone ever washed their cutting board with half a lemon and some salt? You know how awesome it works, right?

It’s such a purifying little fruit, a gift from God, that everyone who had lemons available to them from the beginning of time has used to clean and keep themselves healthy!

I love the smell of it too! And I have very fond memories of walking around Capri (which is covered in lemon trees) when I was studying in Italy, tasting lemoncello with a dear, dear friend.

yup. i thought you all needed some pictures of Capri right then and there. And me from 2006.

Alrighty, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s talk about the essential oil!

It is exhaustive how much we could talk about Lemon EO, so I’m just going to share a few of my favorite uses. If you want to know more, ask me!

🍋Lemon Fun Facts: It takes about 75 lemons to make one 15mL bottle of Lemon Essential Oil. It is cold pressed from the rind rather than steam distilled. It is so high in Monoterpenes, you can use it to clean the blackest grime off of surfaces with ease! Young Living offers Lemon in the normal line as well as the Vitality line for consumption, but they are the exact same oil inside the bottles.

Lemon promotes feeling of fullness, stimulates creativity, cleans, purifies!, uplifts the body and mind, supports wellness(Vitamin C!) and cleanses toxins, energizes, aids in digestion, enhances flavor of food and drink…and the list goes on!

To use, {note: DO NOT take any oil internally that is not Young Living!} 🍋

  • Smell it! Boost your emotional system and make you feel happier. {hello Capri! lol}
  • Add to homemade hand soap for purification and the smell! Or just add to a water in a spray bottle to clean surfaces!
  • add a drop or two to your water glass for lemon water,  it helps you feel full.
  • I like to put a drop in a spoon of honey and mix in either tea, hot water, or eat straight up to help with a sore throat.
  • I really like to use it with peppermint and lavender to help with allergies! #bringonspring! Oh man does it help, you can make a rub with coconut oil to put on your chest to clear your sinuses, you can diffuse the mix, or you can take the three, a couple drops of each in a capsule.
  • Apply a drop to a greasy spot to disolve.
  • and a new idea I just learned: put a drop on your nail bed to make it stronger!

Young Living’s Lemon essential oil is made from the lemon rind so it is much easier on your teeth and stomach than regular lemon juice.

There are so many ways to use this refreshing oil! Let me know if you have any fun ways to use it!

ps- as a PRECAUTION: Lemon and other citrus oils is photosensitive, meaning it will attract UV rays from the sun exposure. Avoid applying directly to the skin that will be exposed to the sun within 24 hours.

Young Living's Seed to Seal Promise is one-of-a-kind. No other company offers this kind of purity and potency.

*pss- if you find “cheaper” oils on the market, let me just warn you. A lot of them include synthetics and things that are actually horrible for your body. You can do your own research but I just ask you to be careful. The whole point of using essential oils is to have all natural ways to help your health, if you use the fake stuff, you may get hurt. If you want more info on that, let me know.

oils for sickness

Here is where I eat my words. Here I was sharing how excited I was about these oils just a couple posts ago because they keep us SO well! da da dun…

Well, we’ve been sick for about two weeks now. Taking turns, some getting better some getting worse. Now the dreaded “man cold” has arrived so we’re all feeling over it. {tee hee. Love ya husbuddy… 😉 }

YES, we still get sick when using oils because hello, we have a toddler in the house. A toddler who, I caught last week LICKING THE WINDOW GLASS AT A COFFEE SHOP. what?! yes. really. {gross! blech!} we still get sick because of said toddler(and guess what, she’s almost 4 years old…)

So, I thought I’d come on here and share some of my “go-to” oil recipes for colds. This is the third post in this oil OR “Unicorn Tears” Series {haha} and I just need to state, these are not in replacement for medicines. Think of it like another tool for your toolbelt. Another way to help you feel better. I am not making any sort of statement saying these heal us! The FDA would not allow me to say such things! I’m just saying these help give some relief, a tool I can pull out first, before pulling out the big guns, or second, after I’ve already given them medicine.

Anyway, so first up:

What I rub on the kiddos:

Thieves diluted with a roller top so I can just roll it right under their toes. Sometimes I do it on their spine too. The Sniffle-ease is an ALREADY diluted mix of oils that helps children to be able to breathe! It’s awesome. Sometimes Sophia asks me not to put it on because it actually makes her have to blow her nose…um… dear, that means it’s working and we want that…but try explaining that to a little threenager. haha.

What I diffuse for the coughs (this is best for kids, for adults I sometimes make it stronger!) I love this though, because even for me when I am sitting in this room with the diffuser going with Lemon and purification I feel the cough stop. Sometimes when Sophia can’t stop coughing to go to sleep I put this in her bedroom and her little lungs relax. She stops coughing almost immediately.  Other ideas to diffuse for coughs is RC or Melrose. Both have worked but the one above is the best!

And now this little magic bullet:

This is the magic “cold bomb” that helps me (and hubs!!)get better faster:

I admit I don’t always make it the same way. If I’m not sick yet, I don’t use oregano(that’s good for fighting off sinus infections!) And if I’m fighting it I might add extra vitamin C through lemon and grapefruit and orange.

This is what I use when I have a coughing fit or before trying to get to sleep with a cough:

Guys, to warn you that is one INTENSE spoonful. But it numbs the throat a bit and it seriously takes away the cough!

Now, I’m going to need to order me some more thieves because we are running on low in this household at the moment.

Do you have any “go-to” essential oil recipes for when you’re sick? Please share!
