tune my heart to sing thy grace {day 28}

day 28

 Come Thou Fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of God’s unchanging love.

Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Hither by Thy help I’m come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood.

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let that grace now like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

Christian Hymn penned by Robert Robinson in 1757.

{this is one of my all time favorite hymns. i’ve been wanting to make a more permanent artwork with these words for so long…we’ll see if i get to it before baby girl arrives! to hear David Crowder sing it, click HERE front walk

our front porch got spiffed up today with a little chalkboard love and a hymn. i’ve been wanting to do something like this pin that has been so popular on pinterest. this is really NOTHING like that pin. i still want to make a framed chalkboard that’s big like that for our front porch…but for now this will have to do.

i made it by painting chalkboard paint on an old mdf shelf i had. {i save weird things like that, because even though the book shelf fell apart from being super cheap, i’ve been moving this board around for years with lots of ideas of how i was going to paint on it… and Husbuddy wonders why i’m so strange…but look! free wood shelf–> turned chalkboard!}

then i painted the edges yellow since i knew it wasn’t going to be framed.

to add a little more yellow snazziness, {that’s not a word, but i just made it one…so get over it.} i nailed two nails on each end and then wrapped a wire hanger with fabric. the fabric brings a little homey-charm. don’t ya think?

if you ignore the rusting-ugliness that is our front lantern… it’s pretty cute, right?  and how fun is that going to be on halloween to write something fun on it for all the visitors. after all, it IS our first halloween in our new house!  {hopefully, by next halloween that lantern will be given a little love…}

front view in no way is itperfect. the lines of yellow paint around the edges aren’t even straight- look! you can see them in the picture above on the chalkboard! i also haven’t gotten into the chalkboard craze that much yet, so i haven’t practiced my chalk-board lettering… eh. oh well! i don’t think it has to be perfect to be beautiful. sometimes you just need to do it/hang it up/love it because it’s not perfect!

now you have that song stuck in your head, don’t you? i do too. love it!
